Direct and manage the first concrete testing laboratory certified by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Building Code Commission, and be part of a small business with a big 124-year history. Work on some of the most iconic buildings in New England and direct all aspects of this 5,000 sq. ft. in-house laboratory and in-field services.

DUTIES

  • Responsible for directing and managing Construction Materials Testing Laboratory, both in-house and in-field.
  • Prepares and generates proposals and executes contracts for laboratory services.
  • Ensures laboratory performs to high standards of practice and quality control.
  • Oversight of laboratory testing services provided are: soil inspection/testing, reinforcing steel inspection, concrete/precast concrete inspections, masonry inspections/testing, fireproofing/firestopping inspections, structural steel inspections including MP and UT testing, structural wood inspections, proof load testing, asphalt testing and inspection, jack calibrations, etc.
  • Coordinates with Engineering and Finance Department teams.
  • Reports directly to the CEO.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preferred: Licensed Professional Engineer registered in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with minimum of five years of experience in construction engineering, construction materials testing, or structural engineering.
  • Acceptable: BS in Engineering, Materials Science, or Construction with three years of experience in a managerial position performing tests on concrete and concrete materials, including two years as a laboratory technician or supervisor.
  • Minimum: Eight years of soil/concrete and asphalt field and laboratory testing experience, including five years as a technician or supervisor.
  • Familiarity with Mass State Building Codes.
  • Must be able to interpret the results of tests on concrete and concrete aggregates as stated in ASTM E 329-07.
  • Must be able to direct and manage multiple staff working on diverse tasks in a small-team project environment in construction and materials testing laboratory.
  • Selection of the following certifications are preferred: ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade 1; Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician Level 1; and any additional ACI, NETTCP, NICET certifications.
  • Must be a dedicated team player with strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS-Office programs and document transfer software programs a plus
  • Must be able to pass a CORI background test.
  • Must have a valid U.S. drivers’ license with a clean record.
