Now more than ever, Factory Mutual (FM) Global Roof Wind Uplift Resistance Tests are in order. Conducted in the field, this test is a viable tool to help determine a roof system’s ability to withstand potential wind events which can cause further damage by exposing building contents to flooding or contamination.
The FM Global Roof Uplift Test confirms acceptable wind-uplift resistance on completed roof systems (not merely roof components) in hurricane-prone regions, where a partial blow-off has occurred, or where inferior roof system construction is suspected or known to be present. As a result, this test is growing ever more popular as more incidents of extreme weather conditions occur. (Even probable loss due to hurricane strengths may also be determined at incremental pressures.)
Thompson & Lichtner’s FM Global Roof Wind Uplift Resistance Tests produce a “pass” or “fail” result documented in a written report. With “pass” you have the knowledge and confidence of a tested roof assembly. A “fail” result presents the opportunity to fix problems before they cause damage, a fact which can be further documented with an optional retest and potential “pass” result.
