Stay Healthy and Stay Dry
Did you know that a building’s environment plays an important part in overall personal health? Just think about how the weather influences moods and physical well-being, and extend that thought to a building. Although no one can control the stresses that weather causes (and, today, extreme weather is often the norm), one can control how buildings, places where people live, work, and play, can stand up to them. As with human health, the best approach to ensuring a “healthy building” is to be proactive. Need to identify existing or potential environmental concerns regarding the building enclosure? And/or does the building leak? Professional testing and investigations can determine the root causes of building conditions in addition to fulfilling product warranty obligations and quality assurance. Then, by knowing why problems occur, those problems can be appropriately addressed. A healthy building is a sound building. Oftentimes it even “pays you back” with savings on heat and air conditioning and no worries about further avoidable damages.
Timing is Everything
“Putting the cart before the horse” was an old saying about planning wisely. So there is probably nothing worse than putting the finishing touches on a job only to find that an essential component to an essential future testing service has been covered up. Just a mere matter of unfortunate scheduling that, also unfortunately, comes with a high cost (tearing out finished work, etc.). In our experience, placing overburden before scheduling Electronic Roof Testing (ERT) for roofs and plaza decks (which tests membranes for breaches) is one example of unfortunate scheduling that we sometimes run into. As much as our professionals take care to use quality testing materials for ERT (such as using 9-strand stainless steel poly wire, instead of 6-strand), quality materials and professional specialists cannot make up for restricted access to the area to be tested. Consider testing when scheduling, and you will be rewarded with knowing that all is well, even below the visible surface.
