The Thompson and Lichtner Co., Inc. is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Motahareh (Monnie) Rahimi, Director of our Construction Materials Testing Laboratory, to the T&L Team. Monnie recently moved from Michigan (just in time for our New England winter weather!) with her husband and young son and is excited to take charge of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Concrete Testing Lab #0001.
Her passion for concrete precedes her position at T&L: “I have always loved concrete and the way it feels, looks, and smells. When I was choosing my course of studies I had many people advise me to consider other fields. I am so glad I chose concrete because that’s what makes me happy!” Her career has led her around the world, from Iran to Canada to the United States. Most recently she worked remotely as a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at MIT where she analyzed cement carbon emissions and developed a bottom-up framework to assess cementitious products’ carbon uptake (carbon neutrality).
Dr. Rahimi’s professional honors include being chosen as an ACI judge for Mortar Workability Competitions in Quebec (2016) and Philadelphia (2019), and assuming the position of Vice President of Activity for the Student Division of ACI Sherbrooke at the University of Sherbrooke, Canada.
When not at the lab, Monnie enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, and listening to music.
