Performs assignments designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard building enclosure engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Reports to Project Manager.
Duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Perform building enclosure inspections and tests of new and existing buildings in order to verify that the work is being performed in accordance with the project documents, manufacturers’ requirements, and standard practice.
- Perform condition surveys for existing and historic buildings.
- Perform building envelope commission.
- Assist in the performance of field tests:
- Windows, curtain walls, and doors weatherproof tests
- Electronic Roof Tests (high and low voltage)
- Wind Uplift Tests
- Blower Door Tests
- Infrared Thermography of walls and roofs
- Pull Tests
- Produce field reports for work performed
- Must be able to define problems, collect data, evaluate facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with personnel.
Fieldwork assignments with some travel will be required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Degree in Civil Engineering or Architecture (or foreign equivalent) plus a minimum of two years of experience in inspection and testing of building enclosures and building condition surveys.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write technical reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
While in the field, the employee may be required to walk in rugged conditions, work in adverse weather conditions, and stand up to eight hours or more at a time. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
CERTIFICATES: Must take one OSHA-10 hour Safety Course.
COMPENSATION: Hourly compensation dependent upon qualifications and experience. Employee benefit package available.
